History of Ganesh Chaturthi
Ganesha is the youngest son of King Shiva and Parvati. There are many stories after his birth but two of them are the most common.
According to the original story, King Ganesha was created by Parvati coming out of the mud in his body to guard him in the absence of Shiva. She gave him the job of guarding his bathroom door while he bathed. At that moment, Shiva returned home and Ganesha, who did not know who Shiva was, stopped him. This infuriated Shiva and Ganesha's head fell off after the payment between the two. Parvati was furious when he learned of this; King Shiva, too, promised to bring Ganesha back to life. The devas were sent to search for the child's head facing north but found the head. Shiva fixed the elephant's head on the baby's body and how Ganesha was born.
Another popular story is that the Devas asked Shiva and Parvati to create Ganesha to be the Vighnakarta (constructor of obstacles) of the rakshasas (demons), thus becoming the Vighnaharta (problem examiner) and to assist Dedas.
